The script is based on the novel "Spring Will Always Be" by Gennady Tsyferov. Gene is waiting for his father to return from the front. His dreams of the stars are over shadowed by the night battles, and the sky is pierced with volleys of gunfire. The victory salute helps him to forget all his sorrows, as victorious soldiers return to the city, but not all of them. Gene has matured over the course of four years, and he continues to believe that his father will return, and that spring will always be with him.
